ANZ Centre – Christchurch, New Zealand

The ANZ Centre brings a new standard of where to relax, eat and drink in Christchurch CBD

The Brief

For the newly constructed ANZ centre in Christchurch, New Zealand the customer required a large magical white tree to go in the centre of the new glass atrium, helping to create a relaxing atmosphere and setting a new standard of where to wind down, drink and dine in Christchurch CBD.

Our Solution

We started with a selection of concept images that featured different styles of tree to see what worked best for the space. The tree is 6m high and required structural sign off to ensure it is fit for purpose. Working closely with engineering company Miko Engineering, We carefully designed the tree to ensure it would be structurally sound, and also be able to pack down for travelling to the install location. Due to the size, and the features required, we opted for a fully fabricated trunk, with a mix of steel and natural branches. This tree is exposed to daylong sunlight, so we sourced special white paint that wouldn’t discolour. We also worked closely with our suppliers to create a one-off white UVSIlx colourfast foliage.

The Outcome

This truly is an incredible tree, and the project was a joy to work on. Typically we create life-like replicas, this was an exciting opportunity to learn new processes, materials and techniques. The ANZ building is a masterpiece, and the large white tree creates a peaceful and inspiring atmosphere admired by many.
